Pakistan, A Popular Outsourcing Destination

4

The article appeared in the “Business Week” magazine on the 4th of June, written by Rachael King. The article, and the comments that follow up the online edition of this article, highlight the true facts about how Pakistan is and should be a preferred IT outsourcing destination.

Pakistan has become the 20th most attractive outsourcing destination, according to consulting management firm A.T. Kearney. Even as concerns increase about Pakistan’s stability and the growing displaced population due to ongoing military operations with the Taliban, the country made a significant jump on A.T. Kearney’s 2009 Global Services Location Index released May 18. Pakistan went from #30 in 2007 to #20 in 2009.In fact, the report says that as a region, the Middle East and North Africa are becoming more attractive in the ever-shifting geography of popular outsourcing places. Both enjoy large, well-educated populations and proximity to Europe. The index ranks the top 50 countries worldwide for locating outsourcing activities including IT services and support, contact centers and back-office support. Both Jordan and Egypt have entered the top 10 locales.

The PEACE Act 2009 (Kerry-Lugar Bill)

The PPP government celebrates the passing of the “Pakistan Enduring Assistance and Cooperation Enhancement Act” by the USA Congress which would provide an estimated $1.5 billion per year in financial assistance to Pakistan for the next 5 years. The conditions that have been set for the provision of this assistance are, to say the least, humiliating for any patriotic Pakistani.

The conditions associated with this bill constitute most text of the text this bill contains which I took the time to read through in detail.

Let me highlight only a few of the absolutely disappointing clauses that are included as “conditions” for this aid:

to ensure access of United States investigators to individuals suspected of engaging in worldwide proliferation of nuclear materials, as necessary, and restrict such individuals from travel or any other activity that could result in further proliferation;

This is a clear indication that the PPP led government is ready to risk a National Security issue of such importance for a small amount of money. By accepting this assistance, the government intends to agree to give the United States access to nuclear scientist, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, which is absolutely NOT acceptable to the people of Pakistan. Out of love for Muhammad (S.A.W)

12

I am quoting this from a book I don’t want to name till I have gone through it. This is out of sheer love for the Prophet of Islam, a Prophet who refurbished Islam ( the age-old faith since Adam (A.S) ) and gave it a new, more expansive horizon and inclusive meaning.

Muhammad is a huge liberating force. Muhammad is universal. Muhammad is peace and mercy. Muhammad is enlightenment and empathy. Muhammad is enhancement of human values. Muhammad is discovering one’s humanity and the purpose of life. Muhammad is the revealed truth. Muhammad is sacred and transcendent.

All that is beautiful and delectable, is Muhammad (S.A.W.)

May Allah give the Muslim ummah the opportunity to truly understand Muhammad, for in this understanding lies success in both worlds, and put an end to oppression and suffering.
