Shah Mehmood Qureshi joining the PTI?

3

Following Imran Khan’s huge public gathering at the Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore, political temperature in the country has been on a constant rise. Shah Mehmood Qureshi, following his resignation/removal from the post of Foreign Minister by the sitting PPP government has been extremely vocal against the sitting government, which he was part of until recently.

News has been making the rounds that me might either join the PML-N or Imran Khan’s PTI.

The Express Tribune is reporting that Shah Mehmood Qureshi has taken his decision and will be formally announcing his affiliation with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in a rally this November 27.

The Newspaper has quoted a spokesperson of the PTI in this regard:

A spokesperson for the PTI said that Qureshi had met PTI Chairman Imran Khan before Eidul Azha and is expected to join the party soon.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi will be resigning from his National Assembly seat before he makes the official announcement. In recent days, several prominent names have been announcing their joining of the PTI including the grandson of Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

Winds of change are blowing harder as Pakistan braces itself for political activity that has probably NEVER been witnessed before. Will Imran Khan and his flock be able to handle the pressure?

Only time will tell.

The PEACE Act 2009 (Kerry-Lugar Bill)

6

The PPP government celebrates the passing of the “Pakistan Enduring Assistance and Cooperation Enhancement Act” by the USA Congress which would provide an estimated $1.5 billion per year in financial assistance to Pakistan for the next 5 years. The conditions that have been set for the provision of this assistance are, to say the least, humiliating for any patriotic Pakistani.

The conditions associated with this bill constitute most text of the text this bill contains which I took the time to read through in detail.

Let me highlight only a few of the absolutely disappointing clauses that are included as “conditions” for this aid:

to ensure access of United States investigators to individuals suspected of engaging in worldwide proliferation of nuclear materials, as necessary, and restrict such individuals from travel or any other activity that could result in further proliferation;

This is a clear indication that the PPP led government is ready to risk a National Security issue of such importance for a small amount of money. By accepting this assistance, the government intends to agree to give the United States access to nuclear scientist, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, which is absolutely NOT acceptable to the people of Pakistan. Habib Jalib and the people

This post about renowned poet and activist, Habib Jalib, is mostly from Wikipedia. As stated on the website, he was a Marxist-Leninist and aspired to the ideals of Communism. He was a member of the Communist Party of Pakistan; later when the Communist Party was banned and started working under the banner of the National Awami Party, Jalib joined the NAP. He expressed his beliefs openly and paid heavily for them. Habib Jalib spent most of his life in Jail and the rest on the streets.

Due to his daring revolt against the order of the day (in Ayub’s era), Jalib was banned from official media but he remained undeterred. He rather started a tirade against the tyranny with more resolution. It reached its zenith when Fatima Jinnah decided to contest elections against Ayub Khan. All democratic forces rallied around her and at her election meetings, Jalib used to recite his fiery poems in front of an emotionally-charged crowd. His most popular poem at that time was:

Maan kay paon talay jannat hai idhar aa jao

(The paradise is under the feet of the mother. So come into her fold).

And here I am, sharing a beautiful recitation of one of his famous write-ups: “Main ne Uss se Ye Kaha”
