Yakja – Relief Efforts For Flood Effected People 2011
0
We did this together last year, 2010, in our own capacities as a group of friends. We named the group “Yakja”. As floods due to heavy rains have made their way into people’s lives once again this year, we have decided to re-group and begin our activities again to extend a helping hand to those effected by the heavy flooding.
YAKJA group has decided to start a Relief operation for affectees of unusual heavy moonsoon rains in Interior Sindh – The start of this week showed us how continuous downpour can paralyze a big city like Karachi – Imagine the devastation that has been caused by weeks of continuous rain and subsequent urban and rural flooding in different cities and villages around Badin, Naushero Feroz, Sanghar, Thatta etc.
Based on the experience of flood relief and rehabilitation operations done last year, we have geared up a volunteer team and are assessing the impact to carry out a targeted relief operation in coming weeks. Our aim is to ensure transparent delivery of Relief goods to our countrymen who look forward to our help in this hour of need.
Our first target is to provide relief items including Ration packs and Shelters to 500 families – We look forward to your generous contribution towards this cause. Our volunteer team will ensure on-ground delivery of all goods so that each penny of donation is spent towards the relief effort. You can pledge your donations to our team members by sending your contact details and pledge amount by email to yakjahh@gmail.com

Veinna Convention and Ayatollah Khomeini in 1964
2
I have been studying and paying close attention to the life of Ayatollah Khomeini, the man who led Iran’s modern Islamic revolution and installed a new system of government in place.
During my study, I stumbled across this saying of his dated 27th October 1964 regarding the Vienna Convention and the immunity US diplomats and US embassy officials would enjoy.
This is what Ayatollah Khomeini had to say regarding the Vienna convention:
“I cannot express the sorrow I feel in may heart…Iran no longer has any festival to celebrate; they have turned our festival into mourning…They have sold us, they have sold our independence; but still they light up the city and dance…The dignity of the Iranian Army has been trampled underfoot! A law has been put before the Majlis according to which we are to accede to the Vienna Convention, and a provision has been added to it that all American military advisers, together with their families, technical, and administrative officials, and servants – in short, anyone in any way connected to them – are to enjoy legal immunity with respect to any crime they may commit in Iran.
If some American’s servant, some American cook, assassinates your marja in the middle of the bazaar, or run over him, the Iranian police do not have the right to apprehend him! Iranian courts do not have the right to judge him! The dossier must be sent to America, so that our master there can decide what is to be done… They have reduced the Iranian people to a level lower than that of the American dog. If someone runs over a dog belonging to an American, he will be persecuted. But if an American cook runs over the Shah, the head of the state, no one will have the right to interfere with him. Why? Because they wanted a loan and American demanded this in return”.
This saying was also highlighted by Mubasher Lucman on his show on Dunya News where he connected this speech to the Raymond Davis situation faced by Pakistan today.
Salman Taseer Assassination
0I had the opportunity to write on the Salman Taseer Assassination for the Global Voices Online, an international community of citizen journalists. Although this is not the first time I’ve written for them, the topic chosen was both sensitive and important.
I have tried to drill some sense into the issue which has seen an uproar from both sides, the Religious Extremists and “Liberal Extremists” and I have tried to keep things even as much as possible.
Some people were of the opinion that the Governor over-reacted to the Aasia Bibi case, a woman who is currently under trial on blasphemy charges, and went a touch too aggressive with the words and the tone he chose to express his anguish. But regardless of that, his comments focused more on the blasphemy “law” that is manipulated by some, usually powerful, people to victimize others.
Fanatic Indians blame CW games bridge collapse on ISI

Honestly, people can go to absolutely any extent when it comes to blaming things on Pakistan these days. Even if a rat is killed somewhere in your lane, conveniently
put it on Pakistan. We’re the ‘in-thing’ these days! On a serious note, experts around the globe have upped their ‘war-talk’ between India and Pakistan and some have even hinted that a possible terror attack on the commonwealth games may well be used as an excuse to launch an armed offensive into Pakistan.
If there are such serious threats of possible terrorism, I urge the authorities to call these games OFF instead of trying to make it a flash point between Pakistan and India.
Having said all that, let us appreciate the humor in the text below
DELHI – In a sensational twist to the ongoing and unrelenting embarassment that is the Delhi Commonwealth Games (CWG), Indian External Affairs minister SM Krishna has alleged that Pakistani ’state-actors’ and ‘hired guns’ are behind the latest calamity to hit the games – the collapse of an under-construction foot overbridge near Jawaharlal Nehru stadium here on Tuesday afternoon.
His comments were backed up by the Secretary General of the four member CWG committee Dr. Lalit K. Bhannot, who is responsible for the technical aspects of conducting the Games and coordinating activities of the sub-committees.
‘We have been informed in recent days by the local government’s security apparatus as well as the IB (Intelligence Bureau) that there is a growing interest from Pakistani Jihadis in getting these games cancelled. We also know the ISI is assisting them just how they masterminded the 2008 Mumbai attacks ‘, said Bhannot.
Flood Disaster BIGGER than TSUNAMI, Haiti: UN
1The United Nations says the Flood Disaster that has hit our beloved homeland and our people is a bigger disaster than the three big disasters of the very recent past – Combined! These are the Tsunami of 2004, the Kashmir Earthquake of 2005 and the recent Haiti Earthquake.
We need to stand up and help ourselves. I am sure if the people of Pakistan unite and come forward with open hearts and minds, we can save our nation from this huge calamity.
We also need international aid – and we can only hope that the most corrupt government Pakistan has EVER seen in 65 years does not eat it all up – we desperately need international aid. We CANNOT allow extremist organizations to stand up to this occasion and use their help to further their violent and fascist designs in our country.
