NRO void – convicts in trouble!

1

cj_316About the National Reconciliation Ordinance, a highly discriminatory, undemocratic and unconstitutional law, I would repeat what many people have been saying since last night when this judgment was announced. The decision to announce that the NRO stands null and void is indeed a historic decision that may very well change the future course of Pakistani politics.

It will be interesting to see how the sitting President of the country and his strongest supporters in the cabinet will deal with this blow having seen the ordinance already defeated (unofficially) in Parliament when strong PPP allies decided not to support the NRO.

M-Banking: Mobilink to start International Remittance

2

Mobile Banking initiatives in Pakistan will touch new heights when Mobilink announces the commercial launch of its remittance services for Non-Resident Pakistani’s. ORASCOM Telecom (of which Mobilink is a subsidiary) has inked a contract with Western Union Money transfer service that will enable all its mobile operators in several countries worldwide to provide cross-border remittance facility.

The aim of both companies is very simple: To make low-principal, high-frequency remittances more convenient to millions of consumers.

Orascom Telecom, which was established in 1998, operates six mobile networks with a combined total of 77 million subscribers, including Djezzy in Algeria, Mobilink in Pakistan, Mobinil in Egypt, Tunisiana in Tunisia, Banglalink in Bangladesh, and Telecel Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe. In addition, in early 2008, Orascom Telecom acquired a license in North Korea to operate mobile services. (more…)

My heart bleeds; will tear you down!

December 04, 2009 – You ruthlessly attacked and killed over 40, almost half of whom were children. You attacked worshipers of the Almighty and I am sure, to absolutely the very core of my heart, HE will not spare you!

Shame on you too, Zardari, for sitting in your protected castle and doing everything in your capacity to encourage US-Indian-Israeli interests in Pakistan and letting their forces wreck havoc on our land! Shame on you for marching brutally over the very fundamental policies of your wife! You are a dictator and nothing more!

As those who were martyred have headed off to their eternal abode in religious zeal and full military honour, I see hope and light at the end of the tunnel. This is a desperate act showing how close to elimination the CIA is in its covert operations inside Pakistan. We know you are well prepared, but we are better! The land is ours and we have used this advantage brilliantly to strike you where it hurts!

What was the point targeting and deliberately killing children?

Besides 16 children, an army major general, a brigadier, two lieutenant colonels, a major and a number of soldiers were among those killed in a multi-pronged attack at the Parade Land Askari mosque that involved grenade throwing, firing from automatic guns and deadly explosions. The siege ended after two suicide bombers blew themselves up.

“Like every Friday my son had accompanied me to the mosque. Now he is dead and I am standing here in front of you,” said a highly disturbed elderly man, his clothes soaked in blood.

You will repent, CIA (Taliban)! And WE WILL TEAR YOU DOWN!!

Little Britain’s Gordon Brown

brown_1211384fISLAMABAD, Pakistan—Once again the cacophony of demands from the US and its allies on Pakistan has reached a crescendo.

The US is getting increasingly frustrated at its glaring failure in Afghanistan. Undoubtedly, the shadow of Vietnam must be looming larger over Washington – with demands for more troops from the military command on the ground in Afghanistan accompanied by a growing weariness with the war inside the US itself; and a confusion in the minds of the Obama Administration as to what needs to be done to turn the tide and bring “the boys” home victorious.

The ignominy of Vietnam is still writ large on the US psyche as is that last hasty departure of imperialism from that country – atop the rooftop of the US embassy in Saigon. As the questions grow within the US about Afghanistan and Obama’s confusion gets mired in a numbers game of how many soldiers to add to a force that cannot possibly win; an easy target for all that has gone wrong for the US in Kabul is Pakistan of course.

Never mind that the US itself blundered by allowing bin Laden to escape from Tora Bora – if that is indeed what happened; never mind that Pakistan has destroyed its own polity with thousands displaced and countless innocent citizens killed before drone attacks, suicide attacks and other forms of terrorism, for this US war; and never mind that the Pakistan Army has moved its forces from the eastern front, despite an increasingly belligerent India, to fight its own people in FATA. Instead of Mourning, our rulers toast with Mrs. Clinton!

28_pakisMore than one hundred innocent Pakistanis killed in one day, more than two hundred in less than a month.  Attacks linked to our own and America’s failed Afghan policy.  Attacks supported by anti-Pakistan forces in the region and not just unknown ‘extremists’.  Children left without parents, a nation terrorized. And the response of our political elite?  Dinner, toasts and merrymaking in Islamabad. Was a reception for a foreign guest more important than sharing the grief of your people? A shameless foreign-backed ruling elite.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan—One hundred and ten killed (110) in one day.  More than two hundred dead in less than a month. If this were any other country, emergency would have been declared, nation would have been mobilized, and intellectuals would have moved to question the policies of rulers who draw their strength from Washington and London and not from the people and the interests of Pakistan.
