PTCL Privatization – dues still not cleared by Etisalat
This is the fourth year into the privatization deal that granted 26% shares of the PTCL to the UAE’s leading telecom operator, Etisalat worth $2.6 billion. It is reported that $ 1.4 billion have been paid and $1.2 billion still stand ‘out-standing’.
Etisalat to pay $800 million by March: minister
DUBAI (January 28 2010): Pakistan will receive a payment of $800 million by the end of March from the UAE’s Etisalat for a stake in Pakistan Telecommunication Co (PTCL), Minister of Privatisation Waqar Ahmed Khan said on Wednesday. In 2006, Etisalat, the Gulf Arab region’s second-largest telecom firm, signed an agreement to purchase a 26 percent stake in PTCL for $2.6 billion, but so far only $1.4 billion has been paid, due to problems linked with a transfer of 3,000 real estate units.
The company is milking money out of this country in profits and is still to pay the nominal amount against which operational rights were transferred to Etisalat.
May Allah bless this country! God knows what is the status of payment for the KESC.

This again is happening after assurance given by the Minister of Privatisation Waqar Ahmed Khan; that the pending real-estate units will be transferred to Etisalat.
Lets hope it gets cleared soon.

DO you believe that the real estate units that Etisalat already has are worth the 2.6 billion dollars? I believe not.
Etisalat has operational control of such a big and profitable institution against peanuts! And ironically, they havent even paid us the peanuts!!

In that case the BIGGER question is that being a profitable national asset, why was the operational and administration control of PTCL privatized at the first place?
