I don’t like this. Sindh, Punjab – Where’s Pakistan?

No I’m no pessimist. They met again yesterday. Nawaz Sharif the ‘Lion of Punjab‘ and Asif Zardari, ‘Jiyala-e-Sindh‘ at Nawaz Sharif’s residence in Raiwind. The meeting, as reported by all media channels and newspapers, lasted for over 4 hours. Zardari congratulated Nawaz Sharif on his acquittal from the Musharraf plane-hijacking case and appeared to be in a reconcilliatory mood.
This change in Zardari’s attitude is natural and was very much expected. He does not want to be blamed alone for the mess he has driven the country into. He wants the PML-N on-board and to be part of the government. With over 90 ministers and ministries already, how will the PML-N be offered portfolios (if any at all), and will Nawaz Sharif accept the offer?
I am not concerned about what they spoke about and what their joint declaration says. Tell me why Zardari went there dressed in traditional Sindhi clothes to play his Sindh card again like he did after Benazir Bhutto’s assassination. Was he there to threaten Nawaz Sharif that “If you plan to take me on – I have the power to try and (God Forbid) break Pakistan.”
Zardari is almost always dressed in Western clothes, he has even refused to wear the traditional and formal Pakistani ‘Sherwani’ when he takes oaths, preferring a suit and tie instead. Why was he wearing a Sindhi ‘topi‘ (cap) and black shalwar kameez again?
From how it appears to me, this is a threatening gesture from Zardari. I certainly don’t like this. He plays Sindh, Nawaz Sharif plays Punjab – Where is Pakistan?
As for the meeting(s), well, you can smile again as we used to in the past. Here’s a look at what used to happen after elections of February the 18th:
- I wrote last year after a series of never ending meetings between NS and AZ. When will these meetings bear fruit?
- Sana Saleem talks about the ‘Notorious Divorce
- Anas Imtiaz welcomed us back to the politics of the 90′s: Welcome back to the 90′s and to Demon-cracy!
- And SAWJ showed us the perfect picture of their coalition, must watch!
Ammar you are trying to negate facts. It was Mr. Zardari who appointed Premier Gilani who is enjoying all powers of prime minister as per constitution; dictator and military general Musharraf was thrown out by Zardari, all decisions in National Assembly are being taken by consensus and as per constitution. PPP led Govt takes all political parties on board for political and strategic decisions. Is he not working on reconciliation policy from day one?? Why r u so wary of giving praise? Especially where it deserves to be given? Leading Pakistan in tough times is the world’s most unwanted job and that is what is done by Zardari. Even the opposition in Pakistan is not ready to face the music and they are happy with the current arrangements as they don’t have to take the brunt. They are not even joining the cabinet and they are just enjoying the roost in one province. President Zardari raised the slogans of “Pakistan Khapay”, and it did lots of healing, especially in the Sindh and u say that where is Pakistan?? Mr Ammar, remember, when Sindh province was flaming after the assassination of BB. Remember the slogans of people of Sindh. It was Zardari who saved Pakistan by saying Pakistan Khapay not you who went on saying about Pakistan’s breakage very easily. You must not adopt a jaded, suspicious and weary attitude towards our president. President Zardari is from Sindh, so there must be no objection about his dress. Tell me why Zardari can’t be in traditional Sindhi clothes? He is from Sindh my brother!!!!!
