Parachinar weeps again
Jun 28th
As the Pakistan military strengthens its position in Swat and Waziristan, the Kurram agency is in the spotlight once again. Fighting has erupted and reportedly, the Taliban fleeing from Waziristan and Swat are wrecking havoc in Parachinar. They are fuelling sectarian tensions and finding refuge as locals from different sectarian groups, particularly the Shi’ites, are targeted.
Amidst fierce clashes that left 33 dead and over 65 injured in a single day, the residents of Parachinar have renewed their call for a military operation. A call they have been issuing for almost 28 months now. The government, the previous and the present, seem to pay no heed to this despearate appeal. More >
# Where Is My Quaid?
Jun 27th
I had casually posted a picture on my Facebook profile sometime in the evening that showed a group photo of the Pakistan cricket team in the Presidency. I was, of course, deeply hurt at the sight of the picture. I then went out. When I returned, I saw several posts and updates on facebook and Twitter regarding the picture. More >
The PEACE Act 2009 (Kerry-Lugar Bill)
Jun 27th
The PPP government celebrates the passing of the “Pakistan Enduring Assistance and Cooperation Enhancement Act” by the USA Congress which would provide an estimated $1.5 billion per year in financial assistance to Pakistan for the next 5 years. The conditions that have been set for the provision of this assistance are, to say the least, humiliating for any patriotic Pakistani.
The conditions associated with this bill constitute most text of the text this bill contains which I took the time to read through in detail.
Let me highlight only a few of the absolutely disappointing clauses that are included as “conditions” for this aid:
to ensure access of United States investigators to individuals suspected of engaging in worldwide proliferation of nuclear materials, as necessary, and restrict such individuals from travel or any other activity that could result in further proliferation;
This is a clear indication that the PPP led government is ready to risk a National Security issue of such importance for a small amount of money. By accepting this assistance, the government intends to agree to give the United States access to nuclear scientist, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, which is absolutely NOT acceptable to the people of Pakistan. Nokia Siemens in deal to buy Nortel wireless units
Jun 21st
Nokia Siemens Networks said Saturday it will buy the wireless operations of Canadian-based Nortel Networks in a $650 million (euro465 million) deal to strengthen its position in North American markets.
The Finnish-German joint venture said it will purchase the LTE and CDMA assets of Nortel, a former telecom equipment giant now operating under bankruptcy protection.
CDMA, or code division multiple access, is a rival standard to the dominant cellular standard GSM, or global system for mobile, while Long Term Evolution, or LTE, is a next-generation wireless network technology. More >
BBC’s Mass Public Deception Campaign against Iran
Jun 21st
Here is a not-so-shocking report on how the BBC is leading a mass-deception campaign against the June 12 Iranian elections and the rallies that have followed. Apparently, the BBC has shown pictures and footage from President Ahmedinejad’s ‘victory rally’ as an ‘opposition rally’.
I’m done, Paul Joesph Watson has to say more.
BBC Caught In Mass Public Deception With Iran Propaganda
The BBC has again been caught engaging in mass public deception by using photographs of pro-Ahmadinejad rallies in Iran and claiming they represent anti-government protests in favor of Hossein Mousavi.
An image used by the L.A. Times on the front page of its website Tuesday showed Iranian President Ahmadinejad waving to a crowd of supporters at a public event.
In a story covering the election protests yesterday, the BBC News website used a closer shot of the same scene, but with Ahmadinejad cut out of the frame. The caption under the photograph read, ‘Supporters of Mir Hossein Mousavi again defied a ban on protests’. More >
Regional Isolation for Pakistan?
Jun 2nd
We have a declared enemy in India on one side of the border – a notorious Afghanistan on the other. We have a friends to our North in China and Iran to our South-West. I have failed to understand why, ever since the present government has assumed control, the government has literally snubbed the Chinese a few times and irritated Iran on multiple counts while trying its best to butter-up Afghanistan and India to become ‘friends’ of Pakistan!
I could not find time to write on several issues that have bothered me – transit trade via Pakistan to Afghanistan being one of them. I could not find time to write how bad I felt when our leaders spent thousands of dollars in an Indian night club in the United States when millions sit homeless in the land of the pure!
This is an issue I want to write about. This is a question my mind is putting up again and again. Are we now headed into complete regional isolation amidst talk of Iran closing the Pak-Iran border? More >
