‘You cannot tolerate vipers in your bosom without getting bitten,’ Ambassador Patterson said. ‘Our concern is whether Pakistan really controls its territory. There are people who do not threaten Pakistan but who are extremely important to us.’’
After controlled media leaks about US concerns of a Taliban ’safe-haven’ in Quetta, the US Ambassador in Pakistan has [...]

It is important for us, as Pakistani’s, to really stand up to the threat we face and address the ‘Creeping American Occupation‘ that I referred to in my previous post. For this, we can and we should take inspiration from the stand the Islamic Republic in our neighborhood has taken up for the past 30 [...]

What we all used to warn of probably a year back is now actually happening. Pakistan’s sovereignty is no longer guaranteed. I will not hesitate to say that our sovereignty has been sold out for a few billion dollars of the IMF and to the so called ‘Friends of Pakistan’ (read: USA) who are yet [...]

No I’m no pessimist. They met again yesterday. Nawaz Sharif the ‘Lion of Punjab‘ and Asif Zardari, ‘Jiyala-e-Sindh‘ at Nawaz Sharif’s residence in Raiwind. The meeting, as reported by all media channels and newspapers, lasted for over 4 hours. Wrapping up the local government system PM sahib? Calling the system of local governance, introduced by former President Pervez Musharraf, illegal and unconstitutional the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Yousuf Raza Gilani intends to install ‘Administrators’ in each district instead. This means good bye to the strength certain parties enjoy in their districts of power. [...]

As the Pakistan military strengthens its position in Swat and Waziristan, the Kurram agency is in the spotlight once again. Fighting has erupted and reportedly, the Taliban fleeing from Waziristan and Swat are wrecking havoc in Parachinar. They are fuelling sectarian tensions and finding refuge as locals from different sectarian groups, particularly the Shi’ites, are [...]

The PPP government celebrates the passing of the “Pakistan Enduring Assistance and Cooperation Enhancement Act” by the USA Congress which would provide an estimated $1.5 billion per year in financial assistance to Pakistan for the next 5 years. The conditions that have been set for the provision of this assistance are, to say the least, [...]

We have a declared enemy in India on one side of the border – a notorious Afghanistan on the other. We have a friends to our North in China and Iran to our South-West. I have failed to understand why, ever since the present government has assumed control, the government has literally snubbed the Chinese [...]

It’s completely out of the question if we are even heard, because yes we are. Evidenced by Geo, the international aid of more than 30 millian US dollars and no improvement in the mal-condition of IDPs is a plea for humanity. Problems much reflected by the transition of extremism from Afganistan to Malakand, Dir and other areas; in the presence of US army, will still remain an unsolved mystery!!

Very nicely summed up, Anum. You have rightly described it as a transition of extremism from Afghanistan into Pakistan – and I would go to the extent to suggest that this transition and the subsequent insurgency has happened as a result of an explicit desire of the United States of America to destablize Pakistan.

Destabalization of Pakistan by US attempts points fingers on our independence, I suppose. If we as a nation, fail to resist such attempts, our freedom is surely doomed!I may be speaking out of the true picture displayed, but Afghanistan’s hostile attitude towards Pakistan in past, brings a lot of questions itself. This thought is provoked due to the extremely black politics that we have been facing here since a many years.

Afghanistan has played foul over the past two to three years, backed very well by the US of A. Musharraf lost his job when he raised the issue at the highest levels with Kabul and Washington.
