From the orphans and widows of Iraq
Muntazir Al-Zaidi (a journalist and reporter from the Iraq based ‘Al-Baghdadia’ television channel) did what almost all Iraqi’s and Afghan’s would want to do with the President of the United States of America. He had the courage to stand up and do whatever he could to let the world know how these wars have effected the innocent.
When he threw the second shoe, he called out loud “And this is from the orphans and widows…”
The video everybody is looking for follows:
I found the episode quite humorous – and everything that I found funny about it went away when I understood what the journalist had said in Arabic. The words that I have quoted above and as the title of this post.
In Arab culture, showing (keep throwing aside) is considered an insult. Throwing a shoe is the ultimate insult. Suits you, Bushy!
All of us have become cold! We do not even pay attention to the sufferings of our Muslim brethren across the world. We cannot even imagine how the effected families would be struggling to make ends meet.
We did not bother yesterday because it was Afghanistan and not us. We did not bother because it was Iraq and far away from us. And with all what has been happening, the day might come (may God forbid) that it will be our homeland subject to such cruelty in the name of freedom and free society!
Muslims across the world are demanding the release of Muntazir Al-Zaidi who faces a possible term of 2 years in prison for insulting a visiting country’s President. A President who received the treatment he should have received a long time back.
He surely deserved this … The journalist just did what millions wish to do … I salute this brave fellow to have courage enough for this act and demand his release.
