Story of a nation that never learnt…
Once upon a time in southern Asia, there lived a nation, a nation that struggled for several years and ultimately won independence from their British rulers. They named their independent country, “Pakistan” (Land of the Pure).
Such was the passion and love for their new homeland that they migrated in millions from Hindustan over to Pakistan, sacrificing families, jobs and property. They were settled in refugee camps and temporary arrangements were made for their living until they settled, slowly but with patience and the will to succeed.
There were feudal lords here in the provinces of Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab and the NWFP; many of whom were opposed to the creation of Pakistan. They had no regard for what this nation, who struggled day and night for Pakistan’s independence, felt for what it believed was its homeland.
This nation, from 1947 up to the year 2008, has been marred by instability, disunity, assassinations and provincialism.
Jinnah, the founder of this country, died on the streets because he could never make it to a hospital on time. There was no proper ambulance for him. Its Prime Minister was shot dead in an open address in the city of Rawalpindi.
That was the last of it, ladies and gentlemen. And then this nation fell into the hands of the feudal lords who had a history of being extremely loyal to the British Raj. The British were the one’s who made them what they were then and what they are today, how could they not be loyal to them? Even to this day?
These feudal lords then came together and gave their rule the color of democracy. And it has been successful ever since. But this nation never thought of what had been done to them. A flawed democratic system, with an unfair election process. The system was created by the feudal kings themselves, for the protection of their interests.
At the national level, it is a contest amongst these feudal kings, a competition to see who becomes the king of kings!
These people have plundered this nation’s wealth and hard work and have bought properties all over the world. Yet this nation has remained silent and let all this happen.
Today, this nation is run by a coalition of such people who came to power through free and fair elections. The flaws of the Pakistani democratic system have become clear and are right in front of us.
A nation with so many able scientists, doctors, engineers and experts in almost every field of study, is represented by a Prime Minister who can not even speak the national language properly, let alone speak English at international forums.
But this nation has a history of fighting all odds and coming out strongly under pressure. These are testing times for this nation again and we wait to see how it reacts.
Matters of National security are flouted and made fun of in public and better leaders conspired against by these loyalists of the British Raj.
This nation hasn’t learnt yet, perhaps. Or has it? Only time will tell. But what needs to be done now is to to stand up against these characterless sell-outs who have taken the fate of this nation in their own dirty hands.
It will be shameful for us as a nation to see the likes of who are pretending to be “in-charge” to continue ruling us whether or not the President leaves. With all his short comings, he is definitely a better person as opposed to the most corrupt duo running the government right now.
I have no words. Silence prevails amidst this chaos and uncertainty. This nation waits like always for someone to decide its fate, its destiny!
I no longer have faith in democracy, this nation just needs a patriotic leader or even a dictator, whoever it may be!
May Allah Bless Pakistan and guard its integrity and solidarity!
