Long March ‘Fizzles’ out

Well done! Well spent! As people in their hundreds flock around utility stores in the country for cheaper food, a long march has come to an end, or has rather ‘fizzled’ out achieving a lot. No! I firmly believe the intention was not just to restore the judges or the judiciary, but several other things in its contrast.

Let’s be frank. The champions of the freedom of judiciary today will strictly NOT be able to bear its brunt, if it truly happens. And it will not happen, ‘they’ will not let it happen themselves.

Thousands of lawyers and civil society activists marched to Islamabad – not on foot of course – for the restoration of all judges who did not take oath under the November 3 PCO. The lawyers movement has interestingly transformed from one aiming at the restoration of judges and independence of judiciary into a movement aimed specifically at the ouster of President Musharraf.

Their leaders lost their aim, their focus. That is none of my concerns to be honest, but they did provide four to five days of relaxation to a government incapable of handling a country at the edge of an economic collapse.

Let me come back to how I started this text. Lets of talk of food. Lets talk of the poor. Lets talk of the hundreds of millions of rupees spent on this long march.

Where did all this money come from? Why is it being spent specifically on creating divisions amongst Pakistani’s and not on Pakistan’s development? Who amongst them is answerable?

The long march came to an abrupt end. Very abrupt I must say. Their leaders avoided questions on where they will go from here-on. Lawyers amongst them have started blaming their leadership of having struck a ‘deal’ with the government and what not.

Keep all that aside – I think their leaders have achieved what they wanted to. They deviated all media attention and subsequently the attention of the people of Pakistan from key issues. Economic mishandling and the divisions amongst their own ranks. Plundering as much and as quickly as possible because they know this government will not last very long. They deviated attention from the flaws in the federal budget. They deviated everyone from their short comings, especially with respect to the federal budget.

This movement was hijacked a long-time back by opportunists and politicians. It has lost its charm once and for all after this long march. It has served the nefarious designs of those working against the interests of Pakistan.

In all this drama – Pakistan and Pakistani’s have lost!

    The Long March came to an abrupt end because the organizers had no idea of their aims and objectives. The only feature was Nawaz’s fiery speech against Musharraf. There were banners (many banners), all against Musharraf. People who gathered there had no idea what they were doing. Seriously, I woke up next morning and found nothing about the march, it was such an abrupt end. A great example of a directionless movement.

    Absolutely, I too was bewildered at how such a massive movement (which was in terms of media coverage and money) ended just like that…

    It had a single point agenda – to pressurize musharraf while diverting the common man from key issues and their inability to solve them!

    It was supposed to have 5000000 participants but had less than 50000. And those assholes made a toilet out of the most expensive piece of land in Pakistan!

    InshaAllah the spirit will not die coz many of us are still focused on the judiciary issue , we also want musharraf to go coz he has created all the mess but the first agenda is judiciary and freedom(azad adlia azad Pakistan).
    i know opportunists are “trying”(PML-N to be specific) to hijack the movement but inshaAllah they will not be able to do so(PPP tried to do the same in 2007 and see wots da result).
    the dharna scene i think people r realizing dat it was a good decision (if not the best) coz of da ground realities of resources not available.

    “As people in their hundreds flock around utility stores ”
    these were da people who welcomed us all da way coz dai have hopes with da movement (dai r not opportunists).

    dai wanted the judiciary to be restored, dai wanted justice for da Lal Masjid, dai wanted punishments for the food cartels and they were hopeful about Pakistan(my main source of optimism dat people from all over da country came for a common cause).

  6. Ammar Faheem says:

    haan? how did they do that??!! you are the second person I’ve heard saying this…?

  7. faisal says:

    i hope u would ve been dere.

    people ve hopes and dat hope will keep this country intact zardari,mush n likes r trying to kill da hope will supported by us n allies to frustrate the movement so dat hopes will die.

    i must say it and i time n again say it current petro dollar crisis and food crisis are not natural dai r dere to suppress the weaker nations trying to rise to challenge the global imperialism (look wot dese powers r trying in china “tibet issue”, similar in baluchistan but here da govt n allies ve sold dere souls along with some so called intellectuals)

    laikin Allah is the best planner.

    @faisal:
    I believe the nation consists of 170 million people, not just 50000, so that proves that people from all over the country did not come together for your stupid cause. Moreover, “all” people of the country do not support this fart of a lawyer’s movement as you can count me, ammar and anas as three dissenters. The “long drive” looked more like an excuse to crap on the parade avenue and leave the health department with unlimited fumigation work. And please learn to write properly in English. Your heiroglyphics have given me a major headache!

    @ Faisal:

    If we’re talking of the petro-dollar crisis Faisal, then you should bear in mind that fuel is only ONE of the raw-materials involved in food production. The price hike in our county is as if fuel was the ONLY raw material involved. Gimme a break!

    It is the new government responsible for this artificial ballooning of prices because of excessive hoarding, stock-taking and SMUGGLING!

    Phew! I wish people could see the hard facts as they were and not the way the media projects them!

    @ammar
    i mentioned petro dollar and food crisis not food crisis due to petro dollar crisis.

    smuggling to afghanistan in the presence of over 90000 troops on the border + un troops so do u think all dis happening without the approval of high ups?

    one doesnt need media to think on the facts avalable.
