‘You cannot tolerate vipers in your bosom without getting bitten,’ Ambassador Patterson said. ‘Our concern is whether Pakistan really controls its territory. There are people who do not threaten Pakistan but who are extremely important to us.’’ After controlled media leaks about US concerns of a Taliban ‘safe-haven’ in Quetta, the US Ambassador in Pakistan

It is important for us, as Pakistani’s, to really stand up to the threat we face and address the ‘Creeping American Occupation‘ that I referred to in my previous post. For this, we can and we should take inspiration from the stand the Islamic Republic in our neighborhood has taken up for the past 30

What we all used to warn of probably a year back is now actually happening. Pakistan’s sovereignty is no longer guaranteed. I will not hesitate to say that our sovereignty has been sold out for a few billion dollars of the IMF and to the so called ‘Friends of Pakistan’ (read: USA) who are yet

No I’m no pessimist. They met again yesterday. Nawaz Sharif the ‘Lion of Punjab‘ and Asif Zardari, ‘Jiyala-e-Sindh‘ at Nawaz Sharif’s residence in Raiwind. The meeting, as reported by all media channels and newspapers, lasted for over 4 hours. Zardari congratulated Nawaz Sharif on his acquittal from the Musharraf plane-hijacking case and appeared to be

Wrapping up the local government system PM sahib? Calling the system of local governance, introduced by former President Pervez Musharraf, illegal and unconstitutional the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Yousuf Raza Gilani intends to install ‘Administrators’ in each district instead. This means good bye to the strength certain parties enjoy in their districts of power.

I have held the view that we need to promote Urdu computing and Urdu on the internet with extensive research and development and practical implementation with more and more content put online that is localised and based on Urdu. Here is Google Labs with a fantastic service called “Indic Transliteration“. Google Indic Transliteration offers an

As the Pakistan military strengthens its position in Swat and Waziristan, the Kurram agency is in the spotlight once again. Fighting has erupted and reportedly, the Taliban fleeing from Waziristan and Swat are wrecking havoc in Parachinar. They are fuelling sectarian tensions and finding refuge as locals from different sectarian groups, particularly the Shi’ites, are

The PPP government celebrates the passing of the “Pakistan Enduring Assistance and Cooperation Enhancement Act” by the USA Congress which would provide an estimated $1.5 billion per year in financial assistance to Pakistan for the next 5 years. The conditions that have been set for the provision of this assistance are, to say the least,

We have a declared enemy in India on one side of the border – a notorious Afghanistan on the other. We have a friends to our North in China and Iran to our South-West. I have failed to understand why, ever since the present government has assumed control, the government has literally snubbed the Chinese

So what if someone comes inside our borders?!! Isn’t it more important to get rid of Musharraf?
What a country we’re looking at, where each minister is serving two ministries, hardly concentrating on one. Nothing is working right now. The defence minister even said that the coalition forces didn’t violate borders in the attack. Infact, I’m amazed to see y no one is marching in support of the Shaheeds or in protest of attack!!

“Matlab ab ye naubat aa gayi hai kay ye namak haram karzai hamein dhamkaaye ga?” was the remark of a person I spoke to about this statement of his.
Indeed, it is a matter of shame for us that instead of replying back in the strongest possible terms and ceremonially laying the martyrs to rest, our leadership not only brushed up the ACTUAL number of casualties, but also refuted the fact that afghan forces crossed into our territory! Shame on them, shame on our so-called leadership!

If I had been the President or PM, I would have simply said:
“You invade our country, we’ll send back your troops in coffins!”
But that’s just me!

@ Faisal:
no matter what you call it, it has now become an eye-sore even for some of the initial die-hard supporters of this movement! Do you think Justice Iftikhar will ever be able unbiased now? After all the support he has been given by certain elements? Not even Aitzaz will be able to handle true justice!
So it is better to focus on core issues – you are an engineer – and optimum solution is what you should too be focusing on. We have to avoid an economic collapse here which is pretty much written on the wall and we have ABSOLUTELY NOBODY to lead us out. Time is running out of our hands and such expensive movements are only straining our economy further.

Hamid Karzai should be thankful that it’s pakistan that’s a transit point for food and other supplies to that stone age country. i think pakistan should block the transit facilities to afghanistan to make a point. put this idiot back in his place.

I totally agree! But our government is ummm… LoL! They should be ashamed of themselves that a student, Samad Khurram, showed them how to deliver your point across! And it worked! Ann Patterson and the United States felt embarrassed in public for the first time that I know of!
And like you said, blocking of food supplies is going to be very easy, ONLY IF SOMEBODY ELSE IS NOT CONTROLLING THESE PETTY DECISIONS! Uncle Sam all the way!

You can’t just say FU to America. We have to keep the consequences in mind. If Musharraf had said FU to America after 9/11, they would have turned it into reality but with a 180o change in direction.
It’s a time to play smart, not hotheaded. Protect your interests while making them feel they are having their way.

@SAWJ
nations fight and die for their pride and freedom.
freedom is the state of mind which if combined with wisdom can result in the making of great nations and if not then slave mindsets like ours lead by american pets like musharraf and zardari.
@ ammar
its not about iftikhar ( he got importance coz he represents the office of cjp).
its the principle that how can army in order to safeguard the interest of foreign powers can topple the prime national institution and the judges(if we dont stop it now it will happen again and again).

@ faisal
“nations fight and die for their pride and freedom.”
but faisal time has changed, you dont fight physically but kill ur enemy mentally and politically but wid ur evil ideas, if any one is playin wid us the mind game we should reply back the same way n thats was what musharraf doing.
and judges arent to b political, n wen thay hav decided to go political for their interest very sorry to say they arent judges any more, if ex-cjp just wanted to protect the office from future govts then he wouldnt have gone political. judges arent the ones to gain sympathy because they have a high place in the society and if they are working for a noble cause they dont need to gain sympathy. and to your knowledge it just need one ammendment in the constitution to topple the existing judge, no matter it can b done by army or even a civilian head of the state.

“nations fight and fie for their freedom.”
You want ours to die? What good would be a dead Pakistani nation? You want to do what they want you to do. Die!
Like I said, it’s time to play smart, not hotheaded. Like it goes, live to fight another day!

i hope our so called leaders(mush, zardari, nawaz, altaf, fazl, qazi……) would have played mind games with foreign forces willing to destroy us BUT they opt to play games with the future of our country and nation for their personal agenda and lust of power and now country is facing fight within(we don’t need enemies now we have plenty within our own).
our army feels proud in conquering our own land, institutions and killing people and declares victory over nothing instead of defending the homeland.
i m not saying to straight away fight a war but to stand for the pride and freedom of our nation(and if things go worse then instead of surrender fight is a better option).
we need to have short and long term strategies for that which i dont know how u can expect from a traitor like musharraf.
who betrayed the oath, who compromised the sovereignty of nation, who himself propagates that the biggest problem we have is extremism(y he doesnt say roti coz us ki khud ki roti aur power iss war against terrorism say judi hai) and how can u forget the role of his most trusted shaukat aziz in the economic disaster of our country.

Yes, indeed, Musharraf outrightly denied America access to our nukes, to AQ Khan, sending our army to Iraq, on Iran, on China for his own political well-being and look where he stands today. He’s the only one standing in the way of our nukes and America.
Army conquering it’s own land? From whom? Do you intend to say that people who try to create a state within the state and challenge the writ of the govt should not be punished? Why would the army kill anyone without reason? You are right, we should let Baitullah Mehsood and Mullah Fazlullah and their comrades roam the land free and slaughter anyone in their path whom they wish to.
And from where I see it, Musharraf is the only one standing up for the country right now, a symbol of the pride and freedom of our nation.
He betrayed the oath but why? Do you dare to look at the circumstances leading to his takeover? He never compromised the sovereignty of the nation rather he saved it.
And yes of course, the economic disaster! You can find a list of economic disasters here:
