‘You cannot tolerate vipers in your bosom without getting bitten,’ Ambassador Patterson said. ‘Our concern is whether Pakistan really controls its territory. There are people who do not threaten Pakistan but who are extremely important to us.’’ After controlled media leaks about US concerns of a Taliban ‘safe-haven’ in Quetta, the US Ambassador in Pakistan

It is important for us, as Pakistani’s, to really stand up to the threat we face and address the ‘Creeping American Occupation‘ that I referred to in my previous post. For this, we can and we should take inspiration from the stand the Islamic Republic in our neighborhood has taken up for the past 30

What we all used to warn of probably a year back is now actually happening. Pakistan’s sovereignty is no longer guaranteed. I will not hesitate to say that our sovereignty has been sold out for a few billion dollars of the IMF and to the so called ‘Friends of Pakistan’ (read: USA) who are yet

No I’m no pessimist. They met again yesterday. Nawaz Sharif the ‘Lion of Punjab‘ and Asif Zardari, ‘Jiyala-e-Sindh‘ at Nawaz Sharif’s residence in Raiwind. The meeting, as reported by all media channels and newspapers, lasted for over 4 hours. Zardari congratulated Nawaz Sharif on his acquittal from the Musharraf plane-hijacking case and appeared to be

Wrapping up the local government system PM sahib? Calling the system of local governance, introduced by former President Pervez Musharraf, illegal and unconstitutional the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Yousuf Raza Gilani intends to install ‘Administrators’ in each district instead. This means good bye to the strength certain parties enjoy in their districts of power.

I have held the view that we need to promote Urdu computing and Urdu on the internet with extensive research and development and practical implementation with more and more content put online that is localised and based on Urdu. Here is Google Labs with a fantastic service called “Indic Transliteration“. Google Indic Transliteration offers an

As the Pakistan military strengthens its position in Swat and Waziristan, the Kurram agency is in the spotlight once again. Fighting has erupted and reportedly, the Taliban fleeing from Waziristan and Swat are wrecking havoc in Parachinar. They are fuelling sectarian tensions and finding refuge as locals from different sectarian groups, particularly the Shi’ites, are

The PPP government celebrates the passing of the “Pakistan Enduring Assistance and Cooperation Enhancement Act” by the USA Congress which would provide an estimated $1.5 billion per year in financial assistance to Pakistan for the next 5 years. The conditions that have been set for the provision of this assistance are, to say the least,

We have a declared enemy in India on one side of the border – a notorious Afghanistan on the other. We have a friends to our North in China and Iran to our South-West. I have failed to understand why, ever since the present government has assumed control, the government has literally snubbed the Chinese

Come on people, Hussain Haqqani is a political whore, he has slept with everyone. Started his political career as Jamat-e-Islami rebel rouser, moved to Nawaz Sharif’s IJI back in 1980s. he was sent to find dirt on benazeer bhutto during her first tenure as PM. He went everywhere from Oxford to Harvard to dig out old boy friends to stories about drinking binges, when he could not find anything, he joined PPP. He has also been very chummy with Mush in his early days. What i fail to understand why all the politicians still favour him, WHY?

Very well said Tazeen. A political career summed up in a few lines.
As for WHY politicians favour him, he is literally a neocon, funded and supported heavily by the jewish lobby in the United States… so there is some sort of a natural inclination towards him, as far as the mindset of our leaders is concerned, that he might earn them a good repo in such lobbies…

Musharraf lost the US favor because he refused to bow down to their every whim and fancy, his stance on the Iraq war, relations with Iran and China are the main policies that have hurt his position with the US the most.
Not to forget his stance on Iran, Pakistan’s Nuclear arsenal and the Gawadar port! These were only *some* of the reasons why America found others to support!
