Who Won? Who Lost?
12th May 2007. The arrival of the *non-functional* Chief Justice of Pakistan, Chaudhry Iftikhar in Karachi and a government rally. The events that followed are too humiliating for me to call myself a Pakistani.
Another rally, held to show government strength in Islamabad in the evening after a bloody day in Karachi, saw government high ups addressing the gathering in support of the President. The rally, unfortunately, had nothing for Pakistan, but for the current President to stay in power.
As I write, 30 people are reported dead in Karachi with over 100 injured. The city held hostage by street militancy and the inability of the law enforcement agencies. Armed men roaming around on streets, deserted markets and no transportation for the common man.
No state of emergency in the country, no martial law, no toppled government, no withdrawal of the presidential reference against the *non-functional* Chief Justice. Nothing!
Opposition parties and lawyers continue to protest, boycotts still continue.
What is going on in our country, Pakistan!?
Scores were killed and injured on the streets of Karachi for what cause? For what reason? Why was public property damaged in a poor state like ours?
Why do people politicize a judicial issue? Why do people threaten the judiciary in an army uniform? Why do people try to take advantage of a judicial matter? Why do people enact laws of their own?
From the opposition’s point of view, I think it is the absolute distrust in the independence of the judiciary that makes them think they can take law in their hands; it is perhaps the utter frustration of expecting an outcome that favors the Government.
I write this text as a neutral person, who favors none but the people of Pakistan and the country itself. My heart cries at the injustice with the people of Pakistan for political gains and for power.
I do not want to go into any other details; I do not wish to hear any lame excuses. What is happening is totally unacceptable to me and to the people of Pakistan. What has happened is wrong!
We, the people of Pakistan want answers, not political lies blurted out at mass gatherings using state machinery.
We want electricity, we want food, we want shelter, and we want freedom! Just like Burqa’s and beards cannot be forced on us, vulgarity and liberalism cannot be forced upon us in the name of enlightened moderation either!
We don’t care about democracy; we’re too used to all this political jugglery, this circus which is evergreen!
All those who read this, tell me! After all that happened today after all that is going on, who won? Who lost?
Wrote it all quite well, to be honest I couldn’t really understand what happened in Karachi yesterday, Pakistanis were killing each other only because of having different ideology’s?? why? does this issue require blood of innocent karachi’ites to be shed? “THE President” could’ve canceled the rally he had arranged for his support, he could’ve talked personally with the CJ to sort out the problems!
But as Imran Khan said “he was quite busy with thousands of corpses in the Islambad rally!” on one TV station I saw people dead lying on the roads of Karachi and on the other hand I saw Mr.Musharraf waving towards the crowd with a big smile on his face … “DHOL’s” were being played there aswell!
Its just the families who LOST their dear-ones!
